Job Summary:

The Document Accessibility Remediation Technician is responsible for remediating accessibility issues in static documents such as PDFs, Word documents, and PowerPoint presentations. This entry-level role involves applying accessibility standards and using specialized software tools to ensure documents are accessible to all users. The technician will perform quality checks, coordinate document uploads, and maintain accurate records while working in a high-volume, detail-oriented environment with on-the-job training provided.

Responsibilities:

• Participate in training on PDF accessibility, remediation procedures, and software tools.
• Review assigned PDF files and perform remediation according to established procedures.
• Modify document structure and accessibility elements including tags, headings, lists, reading order, tables, links, images, and document properties.
• Use automated accessibility-checking tools to identify issues and verify completed work.
• Perform manual quality checks on remediated documents.
• Coordinate with the agency webmaster to upload accessible documents and replace non-accessible versions.
• Escalate complex documents or issues outside established procedures to the supervisor.
• Maintain accurate records of assigned documents, work status, and outstanding issues.
• Manage electronic files following file-naming, storage, and document-control procedures.
• Process a high volume of documents while maintaining accuracy and meeting productivity targets.
• Protect confidential and sensitive information within organizational documents.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• 2+ years general knowledge of computers, software applications, file management, and office technology.
• 2+ years experience modifying document structure and accessibility elements such as tags, headings, lists, reading order, tables, links, images, and properties.
• 2+ years experience using Adobe Acrobat Pro or other PDF editing software.
• 2+ years experience with document processing, data entry, records management, quality assurance, or high-volume production work.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written procedures and step-by-step technical instructions.
• Must have own equipment including high-speed internet and ability to remote into systems via WebLink.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• 1+ year experience using Equidox PDF Remediation Software (highly desired).
• Familiarity with digital accessibility concepts, assistive technology, or accessibility standards.

Special Considerations:

• Must protect confidential and sensitive organizational information.
• Work requires adherence to established procedures and escalation protocols for complex issues.
• Remote work capability required with personal equipment and stable internet connection.
